One of my favorite comic book artists, Mike Turner, has recently passed away.

Mike’s art was known for its attention to detail and sexy female characters. Turner was discovered by Marc Silvestri at a convention, and hired by Silvestri’s Top Cow Productions as an artist. He initially did background illustrations for Top Cow titles before co-creating Witchblade. In the summer of 1998 he debuted the creator-owned Fathom, having also worked on his new series Soulfire. As well as an artist, Turner was an award-winning water skier, held an instructor level red sash in martial arts, and was an avid video game player. In March 2000, Turner was diagnosed with chondrosarcoma, a form of cancer, in the right pelvis. He was treated at UCLA Medical Center with surgery in which he lost a hip, 40% of his pelvis, and three pounds of bone. The surgery was followed by nine months of radiation therapy. Despite his medical condition Mike continue to produce top quality art.

His rapid growth as an artist was “mind-boggling” to watch, as was his upbeat approach to life, even while fighting cancer, said Silvestri of Top Cow. “His pages made you want to fly through the air, and that’s how he lived his life.” His death was a huge lose to the comic book industry,

Mike, Thanks for the wonderful artwork.

so did Iron Man live up to the hype? Does Iron Man conquer all?? Read this review and find out!

Iron Man! It seems everywhere I go people are talking about the new “Iron Man”. I’ve been closely following this movie and eagerly anticipating its release. Iron Man is the first MARVEL movie to be solely produced in-house. All of the Spiderman movies were made in conjunction with SONY and I believe many creative aspects were lost in the partnership. Fantastic Four was also made with FOX and I thought the film didn’t fully capture the true essence of the Fantastic Four.

I am a huge comic fan and each Marvel movie I see is the subject of extreme scrutiny. Iron Man is the latest edition in the Marvel movie library and after watching it I have nothing but good things to say. Iron Man is THE BEST MARVEL movie to date…

Ok maybe “THE BEST” is pushing it, but seriously, Iron Man is a really good movie.

The story of Iron Man revolves around Tony Stark, a genius inventor. After creating weapons of destruction his whole life, Tony has a change of heart and decides to become a good guy. Simple enough right? The acting is solid and Robert Downey Junior does an excellent job. The cheesy moments are done perfectly and the movie is very well paced. I was never bored for a single minute.

Hardcore Comic book fans will not be disappointed. I know Fantastic Four was a let down but I assure IRON MAN delivers. On the flip side, people without any comic book knowledge will equally enjoy the movie. Anyone can appreciate the special effects and related to Tony Stark’s Character. I was afraid that the computer graphics would look shoddy or unrealistic but Iron Man delivers like a champ. Each scene looks absolutely stunning. Don’t believe me? Check this clip out.

They only negative criticism I have is with the last action sequence. I don’t want to ruin the movie for you, but let me just say: I want MORE!! The last scene wasn’t bad, but I just thought it could have been better.

In conclusion, Iron Man is not your average comic-book movie. It’s a stellar film with a fantastic cast and wonderful CGI effects. It’s a thrill ride from start to finish and leaves you wanting more. Comic book fans will pick up a lot of inside jokes and marvel at a classic comic come to life.

wriXeL gives Iron Man a 9.1 out of 10. Seriously we never give anything above a 9, its really that good.

A sneak peek at the new MIGHTY MUGGS!! MARVEL, Star Wars, and Indiana Jones!

I recently came across these things called “Mighty Muggs”. I find these figurines to be adorable.

Look @ Darth Maul! Seriously that’s pretty cute.

I also think Lando Calrissian’s smile perfectly captures his character. Chewbacca looks like an idiot! hahaha

I don’t think these figurines/statues are out yet, but I’ll be sure to get some when they are released. =D

I like Indiana Jones the best…

As fans eagerly await the conclusion of “World War Hulk”, MARVEL decides to releases another epic comic series titled “Messiah Complex”. I have been a Marvel fan for a long time and glad to see the X-Men take center stage again. Messiah Complex (MC) takes place after the “House of M” storyline where the mutant, Scarlet Witch, used her reality bending powers to prevent any future mutants from being born.

The news series begins with Cerebro detecting the birth of a new mutant.

The birth of a new mutant defies the laws of reality and is a monumental occasion. The X-Men scramble to find this new child but realize that they are too late. …the child is gone and only questions remain. The X-Men, Marauders and Purifiers are all vying for this child and more importantly the truth behind this mysterious birth.

The creative team behind the series has many acclaimed talents such as, Ed Brubaker, Marc Silvestri, David Finch and Nick Lowe. This 13 part series will span across the entire X-Men universe and will set the directions of the X-Men franchise for the next several years. I exchanged a few words with Editor Nick Lowe and he claimed the new child might be, “…the mutant race fighting back”.

I’m very impressed so far and eagerly await the next. The story engaging and Marc Silvestri’s art is amazing. I am curious about this new child because his/her mere existence defies Scarlet Witch’s reality bending powers. I highly recommend Messiah Complex and I think it will be a great story.

For a more in-depth Guide to this awesome X-Men story, please read, IGN’s Guide: http://comics.ign.com/articles/798/798610p1.html
